CAVARTS VIRTUAL GALLERY SUBMISSIONS
WHERE VETERAN ARTISTS INSPIRE, MOTIVATE, AND EDUCATE
Challenge America welcomes submissions by Veteran artists to the CAVARTS Virtual Gallery. It is our hope that this Gallery will inspire other Veterans to study the arts, that it will motivate Veteran artists to continue their work, and that it will educate the public on the value of arts for healing and personal growth.
We welcome submissions of all forms of creative art, including visual arts, writing, and music. You are welcome to list your work for display or for sale. To submit your art, please begin by reviewing the suggestions below.
With all of the hard work that went into creating your art, it makes sense to take a few minutes to take an accurate picture.
Hang Your Work: To take the best picture possible, place your work on a level plane with your camera. Pro tip: To make your art pop, select a neutral color for your background.
Light Your Work: Use indirect light to avoid unsightly glare. Pro tip: When using electric light, position at a 45 degree angle to your art.
Adjust Camera Settings: Center your art in the frame and include some background to edit later in the process. Pro tip: If using a DSLR, set to 100 ISO and f-stop between f-8 and f-11.
Edit Your Picture: Use the editing software on your computer or smartphone to adjust colors and crop your image. The images will display in a square format on the gallery website.
The description is your opportunity to frame your work in a broader context and draw in your audience.
Name Your Work: Choose a name that's descriptive of your work and attracts attention.
Briefly Summarize the Technique: Share the dimensions of the piece, the materials used in creating the artwork, and the kind of procedure involved.
Write For A General Audience: Avoid technical language and use descriptive language that appeals to the audience on an emotional level.
Use Action Verbs: What does your art do? How will your art impact the audience? What type of statement does it make?
You are welcome to display your work without listing it for sale; however, if you choose to list your work for purchase, there are several factors to consider when pricing your art.
Start With An Hourly Wage: Estimate the time it took to make your work and give yourself a fair wage per hour.
Include Material Costs: Factor in the cost of your materials and expenses, like canvas, paint, and framing.
Size Matters: If your work is large and will be difficult to ship, capture this difficulty in your price.
Intangibles: When you are just starting out, avoid the temptation to inflate the cost of your work. Begin by sticking to the wage, materials, and size formula to set your price.
Each artist can submit up to three (3) pieces to the gallery. It is free to list your artwork in the gallery; however, we ask you to consider a donation to Challenge America if your work sells.
Your work cannot include content which may be deemed unsuitable for a general audience. Challenge America reserves the right to remove any piece from this virtual gallery at any time and for any reason.
If you choose to list your work for sale, all transactions are solely the responsibility of the buyer and seller. Challenge America does not bear any responsibility or liability for these transactions nor will its staff serve as brokers or agents for either party.
It is the responsibility of the seller to inform Challenge America if your item sells. Challenge America will issue periodic surveys regarding the status of your artwork. If the artist does not respond to these surveys within a reasonable timeframe, your artwork will be removed from the gallery.
All submissions accepted for display will appear for 60 days, after which time this artwork will be removed from the gallery or allowed to remain at the discretion of Challenge America.
By virtue of listing your work in the gallery, you agree to allow Challenge America to display your work in a virtual public forum. Furthermore, your submission grants Challenge America permission to use images of your work to promote your submission and/or the gallery via social media and other public forums.
Artists may request to remove their work from the gallery at any time. All requests must be made in writing via email to info@challengeamerica.com
